Going Green in Belgium

High 5 in Antwerp is Europe’s most advanced glass recycling facility. Waste glass of all descriptions arrives all day every day at the site by road and barge and is transformed into 4 pure streams of coloured glass cullet, ready to be melted down and remanufactured into glass bottles and other containers.

Our job was to capture the process and some of the people who make it all happen.

We filmed in Antwerp and at Triselec’s advanced household waste recycling centre in Lille over three days, using a combination of short interval time lapse and conventional documentary techniques.

The resulting 3-minute film shows how High 5’s unique combination of optical sorting technology enables it to recycle a breadth of waste that other recycling methods simply will not handle.

The project team were based in Belgium and France and the entire production process handled remotely, with scripts, storyboards and edits uploaded for review and approval. Even the voice over was recorded in the United States.

We recced the locations in advance and flew out a 3-person crew for the project, demonstrating how a flexible, systematic approach can be applied to ensure we can comfortably and cost effectively handle video production requirements in the UK or elsewhere in the world.
