Black Submarine – Heart First

It’s only rock & roll

We’ve done a couple of collaborations with critically acclaimed new band Black Submarine over the last year, so it seemed natural to say we’d help out with the video for their new single.

A hastily arranged evening shoot on a Black Magic camera with the band at their recording studio in deepest, darkest Cheshire (well OK, half a mile from Producer Andy’s house) was in the best rock & roll tradition, with tea, pizza and Peroni courtesy of Andy’s bass playing neighbour, Simon Jones.

Mic Girardi produced a wondrous and intriguing edit using filmed live and superimposed textures and a strong colour grade, all enhanced by more tea and drummer Mig Schillache’s preferred M&S walnut and carrot cake.

A complete team effort, with additional footage supplied by guitarist Nick McCabe, the band professed it  “the best video we’ve ever done”over a reviving beer at our local (there’s a theme developing here). Not bad, as Simon and Nick were once in the Verve, Mig was in Portishead and as well as being in Goldfrapp electric violinist Davide Rossi is possibly best known for his string arrangements on Coldplay’s epic Viva la Vida and subsequent albums. Outstandingly talented lead singer and songwriter Amelia Tucker completes the line-up. We enjoyed our first foray into film for rock music and look forward to doing it all again sometime soon.
